E-Bike Rental Marmilla

3 Hours
Carved into the limestone—the typical rock on which the city is built—a visit to underground Cagliari is an experience not to be missed. Hidden beneath the layers of today’s city lies a fascinating world of quarries, cisterns, crypts, and tunnels. After years of restoration and safety work, many of these underground marvels have been returned to the city and continue to attract both tourists and locals alike. Walking through the historic districts of Stampace and Marina, we will explore the Gallery-Shelter of the Salesian Institute, a 120-meter-long tunnel used as a refuge during the violent bombings that struck the city in 1943. Even today, it is illuminated by the soft glow of candles, just as it was back then. Next, we will visit the Crypt of Santa Restituta, a natural cave that holds ancient legends of the city. Finally, our journey will take us to the historic Marina district, where we will uncover the Sant’Eulalia Archaeological Area, featuring underground ruins from various historical periods, ranging from the Punic era to the 19th century.
