If you’ve dreamed of visiting tulip festivals in the Netherlands, Giardino dei Tulipani offers a beautiful alternative. Located just under an hour from Cagliari, it’s in the town of Turri, Sardinia. The garden is split into several sections, each showcasing different varieties of tulips. Some flowers are simply there to enjoy, while others can be dug up to harvest their bulbs. At the end of your visit, you have the option to hand-pick your favorite flower for just €1.5 per flower, with a limit of two flowers per person. This allows you to take home a special memento from the garden, while helping to preserve the flowers for future visitors.

In addition to its stunning tulips, the garden is surrounded by fields of saffron, often referred to as “Sardinia’s gold.” The vibrant yellow blooms of saffron create a beautiful contrast to the bright tulips, adding to the charm of the garden. After exploring, you can relax and enjoy some refreshments at one of the two restoration points on-site, or pack a picnic and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere in the garden.

Animal Encounters and Nearby Attractions

Moreover, what makes the experience even more delightful are the animals roaming freely in the garden. Alpacas, donkeys, horses, and goats are available for visitors to pet. Though these animals are herbivores, be gentle, as they might bite if startled. The friendly atmosphere makes it a great experience for families with children.

Pro Tip: Additionally, combine your visit to the tulip garden with a trip to nearby archaeological sites, such as Barumini and the Su Nuraxi ruins, both located in the Marmilla region.
